Fear-based Approaches

Fear-based approaches to the world always look for differences through separation. The five core principles the ego uses in life are:

  1. Control your surroundings and be safe.

  2. Analyze all situations.

  3. Use the past to judge.

  4. Dominate the environment.

  5. If you feel threatened, attack.

In contrast, love focuses on similarities and primarily uses the present as its source of information. When you choose love as your guide and look for how hearts are the same, a whole different world opens up. Fear vanishes because there is no reason for it to exist. Through loving, you ultimately recognize that all minds are joined in God. The five core principles love uses in life are:

  1. Love and be safe.

  2. Listen gently.

  3. Accept others in the moment.

  4. Respect all life.

  5. Forgive.

Think about the different experiences that come from the principles of fear and love. I suggest you write down the five principles of fear on one side of a card, and the five of love on the other. Carry it with you. Several times a day, especially if you feel upset in any way, read both sides of the card and choose which you want to follow. It is impossible to do both at the same time. This exercise will help you tremendously in seeing what it is you choose between, and will help you exchange fault finding for love finding.

Love-based approaches to the world
always look for similarities through compassion
rather than separating though fear.
