All About Egos
by Kumari, Vedic Astrologer.

"Ain't I something?" thinks the Ego smugly, but he can't just keep this to himself. He must spend inordinate amounts of time and energy showing off and proving this point to others. His good friend, Mr. Intellect, who is the Know-It-All type, likes to assist in this endeavor. It's usually captive audiences to whom this song and dance team perform: children, spouses, parents, employees, coworkers, but even casual acquaintances may be subjected to such "entertainment." If only the Ego could read his audience's mind: "we are not amused" would be flashing across it's collective forehead! It's like listening to the comedian say, "take my wife...please!" We've heard that one so many times before. Or like the boxer proclaiming, "I am the greatest." Like Muhammed Ali, the Ego will punch your lights out to prove it! He will fight to the finish to prove that he and his tag-team partner, Mr. Intellect, are the best, greatest, most magnificent and the only ones in town who are "right." Oh yeah. Well, when someone falls in love with you, it is not your ego they fall in love with. It is more like your spirit; the kindness, caring and gentle goodness which emanates from your heart. It also relates to your values, integrity and the principles by which you live your life. So please don't let those trouble makers, Ego and Intellect, jump in there and spoil a good thing for you! When my clients call me, complaining of trouble in their relationships, once I tune into the situation, often I have to ask them if they've been having a "being right contest." You know how it goes: "I'm right, and you're wrong." "No, I'M right and YOU'RE wrong!!" On and on it goes. There go two egos locked in mortal combat, over WHAT??? When I ask what they were fighting over, they often can't even remember. Or I hear "just little things." Oh I beg to differ; I'd say they were tripping over two gigantic things, both of their egos! It's very important to get the wisdom contained in that popular question, "would you rather be happy, or would you rather be right?" We all must find a way to live from the Heart. To get back to that purity of innocence where as children we could find wonder and joy in each day. Even a box, a pot or a pan could become a toy to have fun with when we were kids. Where did the wonder go? The time is drawing close to the new Millenium. Are you fully prepared? Having lots of food, water, flashlights and extra cash to stash at home is fine. What I mean, however, is Where Are You, right this minute? Where is your consciousness? To what things in your life are you attaching value? Is your biggest focus what your stocks are doing, as you try to keep up with your nouveau rich neighbors, the Joneses, as you all play the Stock Market Game? Do you take time to BE with your children, and listen to them, or is your day just devoted to work? Is it all consumed with how great your presentation will be today, to the client, to the sales team, to the boss? Do you just live for that pat on the head, "atta boy" as you close another great deal for the company? Well, so what. Where is all that going to be if the stock market and large parts of our economic structure crumble? If you have been feeling on top of the world, because you drive a Mercedes and make a large salary, compared to someone on the next street who may be a blue collar worker... I'd just like to remind you that Jesus was a carpenter. He took time for the children. Now that's a good reminder of what's important. The guns going off in the hands of young white boys in the schools around the land are a more negative reminder. Be "present" with your children from the level of your heart and spirit; share with them the beauty and wisdom of your true essence. They, espeically, do not find your ego attractive or entertaining. Because, in fact, it really isn't. It's a scared little tyrant, so afraid of being inadequate compared to all the other egos on the block, it will compete to show them it can be the biggest bully! People, it's time to get outside and smell the roses again! With your children, your family, an ageing relative, your sweetheart, all the people you love. In about 4 months from now we will be living in the year 2000. Wow. Who will you see it in with? The people you love (but may need to make peace with), or all alone with those boring bullies, Mr. Ego and Mr. Intellect?
